About Childers Festival
First held in 1996 as the Food and Wine Festival the event attracted 5,000 people. The following year the Bruce Highway was closed, with the crowd doubling in size. The event area continued to expand and the number of attendees increased. As the event evolved, the festival’s name changed before becoming the Childers Festival in 2012.
Today, the Childers Festival is regarded as a significant event on Queensland and Australian events calendars. The most popular day of the festival is Sunday, which features hundreds of stalls with a varied range of wares, cuisine from all around the world and outdoor stages of entertainment. There are a number of exciting events leading up to Sunday, that include sugar mill and cane fire tours, an outdoor operatic concert and “Red Dirt Dalliance”, an event set in the iconic red dirt of Childers that brings people together through song and dance.
