We wish to advise that Council has made the decision to cancel the Bundaberg Chinese New Year Celebrations due to be held on Saturday, 8 February.
Our overriding concern is for the health and wellbeing of the citizens of Bundaberg and our sister city Nanning.
A Taste of China will proceed on Friday, 7 February
In 2020 we will mark the Year of the Rat with Chinese New Year celebrations. Chinese New Year is an amazing mix of traditional cultural activities from the ceremonial awakening of the dragon through to the dragon and lion dance and the ever-present firecrackers.
The fuse is lit on the annual Chinese New Year celebrations with a cacophony of sound generated in beautiful Buss Park signalling the start of the official celebration.
Clashing cymbals interspersed with the booming sounds of gongs provides the accompaniment to the PCYC Blazers as they energetically present the traditional Lion and Dragon Dance. Firecrackers add to the occasion and as the smoke clears it’s party time in the main street of Bundaberg.
Merchandise and food stalls will cater to those who want to purchase a “Year of the Rat” memento or simply enjoy a meal from the amazing blend of Asian cuisine available.
The diversity of entertainment ensures there is something for everyone to enjoy. A traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony in the School of Arts building may be your cup of tea!
Several sessions involving artists from Nanning presenting dance, acrobatics and opera are held at the nearby Moncrieff Entertainment Centre. This is absolutely stunning world-class entertainment with free admission. Check event program for performance times.
