About Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year celebrations have evolved in the Bundaberg Region since the inaugural event was held in 2006. In recent times the event has found a permanent home in the Bundaberg CBD while also extending its influence beyond just a single day of celebration.

In the lead up to Chinese New Year, several other Chinese flavoured activities have been developed to grow the popularity of the event locally with such success that it has now achieved recognition as the largest Chinese New Year celebration located between Brisbane and Cairns.

Council’s Events Unit relies on the generous support of the Nanning Municipal People’s Government to successfully stage the program.

Excellent numbers invariably enrol for the Chinese Cooking Discovery Class and Tour (to be confirmed) as well as the Taste of China event held at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre which, in addition to authentic Chinese food, also provides a screening of a China-related movie.

The visit to local schools by the PCYC Blazers members in their traditional Dragon and Lion Dance costumes has also raised awareness of this culturally significant celebration for the Bundaberg Region.
