Bimblebox 153 Birds is a unique installation inspired by the birdlife of the Bimblebox Nature Refuge in Queensland. Each bird species is explored by a writer, an artist and a musician.

Bimblebox 153 Birds enthralls gallery visitors who love being surrounded by birds, sparking stories and conversations. It’s our story of our birds, how we experience them and how we have come close to losing them. Experience the artist prints, poetry, prose and interpreted bird call compositions contributed by more than 450 people worldwide. This exhibition features the Ibis bird which inspired Bert Hinkler's early flight inventions. Fascinated by the Ibises living around the lagoons near his school, Bert Hinkler would spend hours watching them. Awkward creatures on the ground, they were effortlessly graceful in the air. He carefully observed their manoeuvres, taking off, banking, gliding, making long sweeping landings. Visit the gallery at the Hinkler Hall of Aviation to view this extraordinary exhibition.

Bimblebox 153 Birds is supported by Creative Partnerships Australia through the Australian Cultural Fund. This Project is also supported by The Bimblebox Alliance, Museums & Galleries Queensland and proudly sponsored by Seedhead Holistic Graphic Design and Quill Studios.
